M-62 Wrecker
Notes: This is a recovery vehicle based on the chassis of the M-54 5-ton truck. Most of the cargo area is taken up by large crane. This crane can be turned 180 degrees, and has a capacity of 9.07. Two stabilizers on either side of the vehicle are lowered when the crane is being used. The winch may be found on the front bumper; when the cable is led to the front, it may pull 9.07 tons, and when led to the rear, may pull 18.14 tons. Maximum towed weight is 13.61 tons. The M-62 usually carries a variety of cables, a tow bar, and basic and wheeled vehicle tools. Despite its age, the M-62 is still used for its high crane capacity.

M-816 Wrecker
Notes: This vehicle is the recovery variant of the M-809 5-ton truck described above. The main difference is the crane in the cargo bed, which has a reach of 7.92 meters, may swivel 360 degrees, and lift 9.07 tons. Two outrigger legs are lowered on each side when the crane is in use. The M-816 has a front-mounted winch that can pull 9.07 tons, and a rear-mounted winch that can pull 18.14 tons. Maximum towing capacity is 13.61 tons. Many of these vehicles have cab heaters. Alternatively, the crane can be disconnected, and the crane mounting can be used as a fifth wheel for tractor-trailers. The M-816 typically carries several lengths of rope and cables, a tow bar, and basic and wheeled vehicle tools.

M-984A1 HEMTT Recovery Vehicle
Notes: This is a heavy wrecker vehicle based on the chassis of the M-977 HEMTT 10-ton truck. In this role, the HEMTT is outfitted with a main winch that has a capacity of 27.22 tons and 56.4 meters of cable. This winch automatically changes in speed in proportion to the load put on it, and the mechanism keeps the cable tightly and evenly wound. The main winch can be operated by remote control. On the front of the vehicle is another winch, usually used for self-recovery, which has a capacity of 9.07 tons with 56.4 meters of cable. The M-984A1 can tow a vehicle of up to 33 tons, or use its crane to lift up to 6.35 tons. A vehicle may be hooked up to the M-984A1 for towing in 3 minutes. The HEMTT in this role still has a large amount of usable cargo space. It normally carries welding and cutting gear, tow cables and bars, lengths of chain, and tools for working on all components of tracked and wheeled vehicles, as well as excavating tools.
