Merkel 160

Notes: Introduced in 1993 to replace the Models 140 and 150, the Model 160 was designed to be a basic double rifle which would be within the financial reach of nearly every hunter. Unfortunately, like virtually all Merkel firearms, the Merkel 160 is as much a work of art as it is a functional firearm, and therefore, the real-life price is still rather high. The Model 160 is a side-by-side double-barreled rifle with Holland & Holland box locks and side plates ranging from plain to high decorated and intricately engraved, and inlaid with gold. Between the barrels is a heavy barrel rib where the sights are mounted, and is also drilled and tapped for a telescopic sight. It has an automatic safety which operates when the rifle is breached, as well as a sliding manual safety on the neck of the rifle. The Model 160 has a double trigger, or a single trigger with a barrel selector. (For trivia’s sake, the Model 140 has an Anson & Deeley box lock, while the Model 150 has an Anson & Deeley box lock with decorated side plates. They are both identical to the Model 160 for game purposes.)
