Armalon PC

Notes: The Armalon PC (Pistol Carbine) began production in 1997.  It is an extensive modification of the Lee-Enfield No. 4 action, firing pistol ammunition.

In appearance, the Armalon PC looks very much like the De Lisle carbine without a silencer.  Internally, the bolt-stroke length is greatly reduced, the ejector was replaced with one more appropriate to the cartridges, the ejection port is of a size more suited to the cartridges, and the striker mechanism is of a reversed cock-on-opening design.  Barrels are 16 inches long.  Both wooden and synthetic furniture is available, but the fore-end is shortened and widened.  The rear sight is a new folding-leaf design and the front sight is that of the original Lee-Enfield; a version with a MIL-STD-1913 rail is also available.  The Armalon PC uses modified Bernardelli pistol magazines (which won’t actually fit in a Bernardelli pistol), except for .38 Special. .357 Magnum, and .50 Action Express versions; these use modified Desert Eagle magazines (which, again, will not fit in a Desert Eagle).

Twilight 2000 Notes: This weapon does not exist.

BSA CF-2 Rifle

Notes: This is a British-made, bolt-action hunting rifle. The CF-2 is representative of British sporting arms industry. It features an extended forestock and an optional set trigger. The CF-2 is available in 12 calibers.  By the time of the Twilight War, the Birmingham Small Arms company had not produced any standard small arms in over a decade, as they got out of that business in the mid-1980s to concentrate on air rifles, which were more easily sold under the restrictive British firearms laws.

There were a number of variants of the basic CF-2.  The CF-2 Carbine was a version with a shorter 20.6-inch barrel (as opposed to the 23.6-inch barrel of the standard CF-2 rifle); it was never popular and was built only in small numbers.  The CF-2 Classic was a version of the standard CF-2 with oil-rubbed finish, a distinctive angular bolt plug, a straight-comb buttstock, and a rounded fore-end tip.  It is identical to the standard CF-2 for game purposes.  The CF-2 Heavy Barrel (also called the CF-2 Varmint) has a heavy 24-inch barrel, but is otherwise identical to the standard CF-2.  The CF-2 Stutzen has a heavy 20.6-inch barrel and a full-length stock with a separate Schnabel fore-end tip.  It also lacks the white spacers and high-gloss finish of the basic CF-2.  The CF-2 Target (also known as the CFT) was designed specifically for competition; it has a match-quality 26.5-inch barrel, single-shot action (no magazine) competition-type aperture optical sight, a solid-rubber buttplate adjustable with spacers, a stock with a high cheekpiece, and a front tunnel sight which is adjustable and can be interchanged with five other front sights.  The fore-end has a rail for a hand stop or counterweights, and the receiver is drilled and tapped for telescopic or even electro-optical sights.  A CF-2 Target was also developed with a 4-round box magazine; this version has special mounting hardware allowing for conventional scope mounts or mounts like the Weaver or MIL-STD-1913 rails.  It was built for competition in the British Army Sniper Rifle trials of the 1980s, but was not chosen, and therefore few examples were ever built.  A scope comes standard with this version.

BSA Royal Series

Notes: Also known as the Hunter, the Royal Sporting Rifle was one of the first of BSA’s first non-rimfire designs.  Though it was produced for only 5 short years in the mid-to-late 1950s, it appeared in a plethora of models, firing different cartridges and with several different weights.  The Royal Sporting Rifle had dovetails for a scope mount, a low Monte Carlo comb, and a raised cheekpiece on the stock.

There were three models of the Royal. Short-action models (.22 Hornet and .222 Remington) had the basic features of the Royal, including a low Monte Carlo stock with a raised cheekpiece, a checkered pistol grip wrist, and a checkered fore-end.  The metalwork is of natural-finish steel with a 24-inch barrel.  They were not drilled and tapped for a scope mount, but had a folding-leaf rear sight.

Medium-length action models (.243 Winchester, .257 Roberts, 7mm Mauser, .300 Savage, 7.62mm NATO) were introduced in 1956, and were ported to help fight recoil. The bolt was strengthened with the help of a guide rib.  The medium-length action versions were drilled and tapped for a scope.  The fore-end had a Schnabel tip instead of a plain round tip like the short-action model.

Long-action models (.270 Winchester, .30-06 Springfield, .458 Winchester Magnum) were virtually the same as the medium-length action models, except for changes in the chamber and barrel to help positively lock the bolt when firing.  In fact, they were virtually identical to the medium-length actions, except that the barrel was counter-bored to take the entire bolt head.  The .458 Magnum version, also known as the Royal Big Game, had additional strengthening of the bolt and receiver, as well as a recoil bolt through the stock.

The Royal Featherweight was a light variant of the Royal.  This version included a lightened 22-inch barrel which was ported with Besa-style porting and counterbored.  The left side of the receiver wall was reduced somewhat in thickness to further save weight.  They came only in short and long-action versions, with restricted chamberings.

The Royal was replaced in production by the Majestic in late 1959, though assembly of the Royal continued until 1960 from remaining parts.  The Majestic was virtually identical to the Royal, and remained in production until 1965 when it was replaced by the Monarch series.  Changes include a small extractor and a plunger-type ejector, a chamber-loaded indicator, and a crisper trigger.  The drilling and tapping was also supplemented with dovetail scope mounts. There were four basic models: the standard Viscount, the basic Majestic; the Imperial, the long-action model; the Featherweight, firing small and medium-caliber rounds, and ported to help reduce recoil; and the Regent, the short-action model.

The Monarch was essentially an improved and modified Majestic; changes included a switch-type safety on the right side of the receiver behind the bolt handle, a simplified trigger mechanism, and a more reliable feed for the magazine.  As the somewhat artificial distinction between the medium and long-actions had been eliminated in the Majestic in 1961, the Monarch was sold only in long and short-action types.  The dovetailed extra scope mounts were also removed on the Monarch.  The Monarch was replaced by the CF-2 series in 1974.

The furniture of the Monarch remained basically the same as that of the Royal and Majestic.  The barrel length was reduced to 22 inches (though it was a heavy barrel), and the leaf sights were adjusted accordingly.  Barrel porting was also eliminated. Most chamberings remained the same, though some were eliminated and others added.  A variant of the Monarch, the Monarch Varmint, was built starting in 1967; this model used a 24-inch heavy barrel, had no iron sights, and was chambered only for two cartridges.

Notes: These rifles, based on cannibalized Enfield 1914s, were designed to fire proprietary high-power cartridges based on pre-World War 1 Eley ammunition.  The High-Power is therefore, basically an Enfield designed to fire proprietary magnum cartridges.  The resulting rifles were never really successful due to their odd ammunition.

BSA-Lee High-Velocity Sporting Rifle

Notes: Like many weapon manufacturers, BSA made part of its money from reconditioning old British military rifles and then selling them as civilian sporting weapons.  The BSA-Lee High-Velocity was one of these weapons; It was based on the Lee-Enfield Mk I.  Changes includes a turned-down (and slightly forward) bolt handle, a two-piece stock with a pistol-grip stock, and a half-length fore-end.  The most dramatic change was the caliber; in addition to being offered in .303 British, 4 other calibers were offered.  Several variants were made: the Pattern No. 1 was the standard model; the Heavy Pattern No. 1 used a heavier barrel, 4-round magazine, and an express rear sight; The Pattern No. 2 was a cheaper version, with plain woods and a lighter barrel; and the Pattern No. 3 was a plain-stocked version (no pistol-grip stock), and a Cape-pattern rear sight.  The Patterns 3 and 4 are identical for game purposes to the Pattern No. 1.

Production of these rifles ceased with the beginning of World War 1.

BSA Sportsman Rifle

Notes: This is a basic bolt-action design, produced from 1947-55.  It is a development of the BSA No. 1 Rimfire Rifle, but meant for civilians instead of the military, and has a much longer barrel.  The Sportsman Five is a variant which is magazine-fed.  The Sportsman Ten and Sportsman Fifteen are also magazine-fed, but they are fed by under-barrel tubular magazines. The Supersport Five had an enclosed bolt, tangent-leaf rear sights, a better extractor, and a far better stock; it also had a much shorter barrel.  The Century 22 was based on the Supersport Five, but had a 26-inch heavy barrel, a target-type stock with a contoured pistol grip, and a large handguard.
