Browning BPS
Notes: This is a
fairly common and inexpensive shotgun with a sighting rib.
It was designed by Joseph Badali, a then-new designer to FN, though he
had worked at Winchester for over 23 years, including some exotic projects like
the SPIW and less-exotic military and civilian rifles.
The BPS is
designed for 3 magnum shells, and five barrel lengths are available.
It was built by Miroku in Japan, and though it was introduced in North
America in 1977, it was not introduced to Europe until 1980, where it was known
by the nickname of Trombone. The
various models are basically identical for game purposes.
They are all equipped with Invector interchangeable chokes.
Variants include
the BPS Realtree Max-5, with Realtree finish all over the rifle, a 3.5-inch
chamber, and synthetic furniture. The Realtree Max-5 uses a 28-inch barrel and
12 Gauge only. It has a recoil pad on the butt.
The BPS
Medallion has a gloss blued metalwork finish, scroll engraving of the receiver,
bottom ejection, gloss oil-finished grade II or III walnut, and a silver bead
sight atop the sighting rail. It is simply a fancy version of the standard BPS.
The BPS also comes with Grade II walnut and with a fully engraved
receiver with gold inlay. For game
purposes, it is as the standard BPS.
The BPS Mossy Oak Shadow Grass Blades comes with synthetic furniture and
a recoil pad, and in 12-Gauge has a 26-inch barrel. In 10-Gauge, it comes with a
26-inch barrel, and uses supermagnum shells.
The BPS Mossy Oak Break-Up Country has a different camouflage pattern and
is heavier, but is otherwise like the 10-Gauge Mossy Oak Shadow Grass Blades.
The BPS Rifled Deer uses 22-inch rifled barrel and is not designed for
shot. It uses the same camouflage
as the BPS Mossy Oak Break-Up Country.
The Rifled Deer Hunter is the same, but has a MIL-STD-1913 rail above the
receiver and otherwise no sights or a barrel rib. The BPS Hunter is a
high-grade, but identical for game terms, version of the standard BPS 12-Gauge
with a 26-inch barrel. It has
oil-finished wood and a blued receiver and barrel.
The Micro Midas
is a youth version also useful for small persons.
It has a 22-inch barrel, two hard plates which can be inset into the
recoil pad, oil-finished wood, and blued metalwork. The Upland Special also has
a 22-inch barrel, but it has a straight-wrist stock and no recoil pad. The BPS
Trap and Micro Trap differ primarily in their barrels; the Trap has a 30-inch
barrel and the Micro Trap has a 28-inch barrel.
Both have a premium recoil pad, a nickel-plated receiver with elaborate
engraving, and a polished blue barrel and barrel rib.
The stocks are of Grade I oil-finished Black Walnut, and both fire
less-powerful ammunition than most BPSs. Front sights are HiViz fiberoptics.
The BPS Stalker
is sort of a plain synthetic-stocked version of the BPS.
It uses a deep semi-pistol grip and molded texturing on the grip and the
slide (which is polymer over light alloy).
The stock and slide are matte black synthetic; the external metalwork is
matte blued. The butt has a recoil
pad, and many ancillary metal parts (like the trigger and trigger guard) are of
light alloy. The Stalker has a
26-inch barrel. The 10-Gauge Stalker at first sounds like a larger version of
the Stalker; however, its stock is of matte black composite material with a
matte black Dura-Touch Armor finish for the metalwork.
It has a forged and machined steel receiver and duel steel action bars.
It too has a 26-inch barrel.

Browning BPS-SP
Notes:
This is a police version of the BPS above.
The BPS-SP has been strengthened to withstand the punishment that can be
placed on such service weapons and to decrease the possibility of jamming or
other malfunctions. The BPS-SP
cannot chamber a round without positive movement of the slide, and live rounds
cannot be accidentally be ejected from the weapon.
The finish is treated to require the least possible maintenance.

FN Tactical
Police Shotgun
Notes:
The Tactical Police Shotgun shares a buttstock and pistol grip with the
M-4 Carbine. It is designed for
throwing any type of ammunition, from batons to tungsten shot.
The receiver is topped with a Picatinny Rail for maximum flexibility of
sighting systems. The Tactical
Police Shotgun is also a derivative of the Winchester 1300, which is a common
weapon in many world police departments.
The TPS is designed primarily for police and paramilitary forces, but has
been seen in the hands of US troops in Afghanistan.
Twilight 2000
