Marsh Mortar

Notes: During the first war with Iraq in the 1980s, Iranian forces discovered that their conventional mortars often could not be employed in the marshes on the border between the two countries because the mortars’ recoil caused the baseplate to sink into the soft mud of the marsh. The Marsh Mortar was designed to overcome this problem. It is basically a mortar of low caliber with low recoil forces and short range. It is hand held and drop fired.

Notes: This is an almost direct copy of the Israeli Soltam 60mm Standard mortar. The mortar can be employed with an abbreviated baseplate and no bipod as a commando-type mortar; in this case, a simple drum-type sight near the muzzle is used. More normal employment is with a standard baseplate and bipod; in this case, the Hadid 60mm uses a very complex sight that can be difficult to set and level.

Notes: As far as can be told, this is a virtually exact copy of the Israeli Soltam 81mm Standard mortar (one-piece barrel version). It does, however, have the same sort of complex sight as the Hadid 60mm mortar.

Notes: This is another close copy of an Israeli Soltam design, in this case the K-6. Other than the sight, it is pretty much the same as the Israeli mortar.

T-1 Commando F/Commando N

Notes: These are Iranian Commando mortars, different from almost all other Iranian mortars in that they are not Israeli designs. The Commando F is the longer of the two, with the longer range, but both are hand-held mortars using a marked strap for elevation and a mark on the barrel for aiming. The Commando F has a spade-type baseplate with a handle with a trigger. The Commando N is a far simpler mortar, being a simple tube with a button baseplate. It is drop fired only.
